Want to hear a secret? I take most of my outfit photos for my blog. Unfortunately, I don’t have a willing husband or boyfriend, or an artistic friend who will take my outfit pictures on a whim. So I am always trying to improve how to take self outfit photos for blog. I am nowhere near where I want to be in this arena, and most of the time, I am unhappy with my pictures, lamenting that if I only had a photographer friend. But it is what it is, and the only thing I can do is strive to get better.
From my experience with how to take self outfit photos for blog, here are some tips that might be helpful to you.
1.) Invest in a DSLR camera. I know that cameras can get expensive, but unfortunately, when it comes to pictures, quality of your gear can matter. Of course you don’t have to buy the higher end DSLR cameras, but a DSLR will produce better results than a point and shoot camera.
2.) Get to know your camera. There is no point in investing in a DSLR if you don’t know how to use it. There are unlimited information on the web and you can probably get to know your camera by reading articles or youtube just as easily as taking a class. Also shoot with NO flash, practicing until you get the hang of it.
3.) Invest in a tripod and a shutter release remote for your camera. A tripod and shutter release remote has been invaluable to the process of how to take self outfit photos for my blog. This has saved me so much time and headache. I bought my tripod and shutter release remote from www.amazon.com and have never been happier. I also bought a small portable tripod that I just prop on benches and things.
4.) Try to find relatively remote, empty spots for pictures. There is nothing more embarrassing than people looking at you while you pose for pictures. After a while though, you become desensitized and just focus on what needs to get done. Most of the time, people do ask me if I want them to take my photos. I always refuse..and they always insist because everyone claims to be a photographer.
5.) Be mindful of the lighting. Outdoor lighting is always best. But did you know that there is a time called the golden hour? That hour before sunset is the best time for photos. You will look amazing, colors will pop, and pictures just turn out better. Unfortunately, I can’t always shoot at this hour, especially since I have a 2 year old with me at most time. (Another challenge of how to take self outfit photos..hopefully you don’t have this one =))
6.) Experiment. For example, you can put the subject (you) with your face towards the light source, the light behind the camera. The pictures will come out clean and sharp. Or you can put your back against the light source. There will be a haze around you. Experiment to figure out what you like. It’s also good to experiment with poses to figure out which ones look best on you.
7.) Practice, practice and practice. I take a lot of pictures because each one is really a practice. I am hoping that with practice and experimentation, the quality of my pictures will get better.
Taking your own pictures for your blog can be challenging and difficult. Don’t give up and keep trying. I hope some of these tips on how to take self outfit photos for blog is helpful to you. =) If you have any helpful tips for me, please share!! <3
