Last month, we rented a 5,500 sq foot villa in Palm Springs.  This was our first time renting a house, usually preferring to stay at hotels or resorts and spas.   Though the villa is a house, it is not someone’s home, but instead is part of many luxury homes that are available for renting as you  would a hotel room or a villa.  In this particular house we rented, stays are available for a minimum of 3 nights.  My first impression of this villa is OMG.  5,500 sq to stay at for vacation is HUGE!  The villa had 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a pool, an outdoor dining area, an outdoor cooking area, a guest house with a kitchenette and a basement with a pool table, den, poker table, and wine racks and wine cooler. The bedrooms are spacious, with flat screens and super comfortable bedding, similar to those at St. Regis or Four Seasons.  Our bedroom was the master suite and my favorite was the closet and the bathroom.  If only I had one or the other =).  The closet was gigantic, with a skylight and built in floor to ceiling shoe shelves. Built in drawers and shelves were abundant.  Oh a girl can only dream! The master bathroom was also heavenly.  The his and hers sinks were separated by a wall, so you won’t even see your partner get ready.  A seating area against an enclave is perfect for lounging around.  The best part is the steam shower, which turns your shower into a spa experience.  The only thing missing is a sauna, but being in the desert, who needs that right?

Renting a house is pretty enjoyable.  There are some perks and drawback but the overall experience is definitely positive.  You definitely can not expect housekeeping to come every night to turn down your bed and leave chocolates on your pillow.  There is also no room service that will bring you chicken tenders in the middle of the night.

You can, however, order food from the many restaurants nearby. It is also extremely private, with a gated entrance, so you can pretty much do anything you want. =)  In regards to cleaning, you can request clean up at the end of your stay. There is also 24 hr a day concierge to help with your every need.

We really enjoyed our rent a house in Palm Springs experience, and it is something we hope to do again in the future.  It’s definitely something you may want to consider for your next vacation =)
