MAC Brush Cleanser Review

by Lesley Kim

A good brush can really make some mediocre makeup perform just a little bit better.  Over the years, I have accumulated many brushes… tossing some and keeping some.  To preserve my favorite makeup brushes, I sometimes use the MAC brush cleanser because my brushes typically come from MAC.

Today, I wanted to review the MAC Brush Cleanser, retailing for  $15.00 for 235 ml at MAC stores and many department stores that carry MAC makeup.

The MAC Brush Cleanser is described as a product that will, clean, disinfect and condition the brush fibers so that brushes will last longer. It is convenient to use and is specifically designed to extend the life of high quality brushes. Brush Cleanser leaves your brushes smelling fresh and clean, and helps shorten their drying time.” (www.maccosmetics.com)

IMG 8038 580x671 MAC Brush Cleanser Review When it comes to the Brush Cleanser by MAC, a little does not go a long way.  I find that I need to use a significant amount of the cleanser to clean one blush brush.  I still see some shedding of the bristles, but I do find that the MAC Brush Cleanser does an excellent job at removing foundation from makeup sponges.  Overall, I have the MAC Brush Cleanser for heavy duty makeup removal from my brushes.  Most of the times though, a nice gentle facial cleanser does the same job at a lower price.

I recommend keeping the MAC Brush Cleanser around for occasional deep cleaning of makeup brushes, but I do not recommend using it every time you need to wash your brushes.  They are on the expensive side for the amount you need per cleaning.  You can easily just use a small amount of organic facial cleanser.

  4. I usually just use a normal cleanser but I still have residue sometimes especially for foundation sponge. Will try using this for that and see how it works out but it looks pricey.

  5. I use this on my foundation brushes! I do agree it does take quite a bit to get it to do the job!

  6. I have this one too and it does a great job in keeping my MAC brushes too. I also use shampoo & conditioner to clean my brushes.
