Jenna Hipp Green Nail Polish Collection

by Lesley Kim

Nail polishes are some of the most toxic things we put in our body.  Being one who tries to be conscious of chemicals in products, especially in those that I apply directly on my body, I am always looking for chemical free alternatives to my beauty and skin care routine.  I discovered this set of Jenna Hipp  green nail polish collection and wanted to write a review of this set.

Jenna Hipp Green Nail Polish CollectionThis set of nail polish by Jenna Hipp, a world renowned celebrity green nail stylist , is quick dry.  It does not contain dibutylphtalate, toluene, formaldehyde resin, campor, and formaldehyde.  It is long lasting and chip resistant.

Jenna Hipp Green Nail Polish CollectionI must say that I really like the Jenna Hipp Green Nail Polish Collection.  It came with 8 mini nail polishes in an assortment of beautiful colors.  These green nail polishes are really fast drying!  I applied two coats, about 3 minutes apart, and after 5 minutes, my nails are set and did not have smudges.  I did not use a base coat or top coat and my nail polish lasted about  a week of good condition.

Jenna Hipp Green Nail Polish CollectionI definitely recommend Jenna Hipp nail polishes.  The colors are gorgeous and they really last a long time.  Of course the best part is that it does not contain all those harmful chemicals.

Zoku Slush Maker Review

by Lesley Kim

During a hot, sweltering summer day, there’s nothing better than a delicious slush to cool you down.  I wanted to share some information about this ah-mazing product that I discovered, the Zoku Slush Maker.  I purchased my Zoku Slush Maker from Williams Sonoma for about $20.00.  I think this thing is the best thing ever!

Zoku Slush Maker To make a slush, you place the cup in the freezer for a few hours.  I usually just leave mine in the freezer until I need it.

Zoku Slush Maker _MG_5978Add any of your favorite juice or milky drink to the frozen cup. Stir every 30 seconds or so and in about 5 minutes, you have a delicious slush.  It’s like magic!  The cup is fairly small, so you can only make a small amount.  The best part of the Zoku Slush Maker  is that you can make a slushie with any liquid on hand.  It does say that the Zoku Slush Maker does not work with artificial sweetener.

_MG_5984The Zoku Slush Maker is super cool and easy to use.  I love that you can use any organic juice or drink to make a slush.  This product is definitely worth a try, especially during this summer.

5 Great Beauty Products from a Drugstore

by Lesley Kim

It’s rare for me to find beauty products that I absolutely love from the drugstore.  Usually, beauty products from a drugstore are purchased on a whim and regretted later.  I always think I should have spent just a little more for better quality products from the department stores.  I have found gems from the drugstore, and so I wanted to share 5 Great Beauty Products from a Drugstore.

Olay Regenerist Deep Hydration Regenerating Cream  $23.995 Great Beauty Products from a Drugstore

“Regenerist Deep Hydration Regenerating Cream uses our exclusive amino-peptide complex, which combines Vitamin E, Pro-vitamin B5 and Olay moisture in a rich, non-greasy formula. It visibly regenerates skin’s appearance and intensely hydrates dry skin. Unique dispensing pump delivers a fresh, clean application every use. Suitable for everyday use for normal, dry, and combination skin,”  (www.walgreens.com)

I seriously love this cream! For about $24.00, this cream is a bargain and can easily hold up against expensive creams from department stores.  This cream does an amazing job hydrating my skin, and I feel like my skin looks younger.  For those who want an affordable cream, the Olay Regenerist Deep Hydration Regenerating Cream is a must try.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish $7.995 Great Beauty Products from a Drugstore

“Don’t settle for just color when you can get a base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, salon-inspired color, top coat, chip-resistance and a gel finish all in 1 bottle. Featuring the unique precision brush for flawless finish and patented Vita-Care Technology for advanced 10 day wear, more shine and nourishing care,” (www.walgreens.com)

The Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish is a great, do it all nailpolish.  When I am in a rush to paint my nails, I usually go for the complete salon manicure. It dries quickly, retains its shine (no top coat needed), and when they are easily removed with nailpolish remover.  Best of all, it is Made in the USA, so i feel like it is better regulated against harmful chemicals.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara $9.99450 (2)

“Formula features 100% natural volumizing technology to dramatically maximize and intensify lash volume. Jumbo volumizing brush creates the ultimate full, thick and dramatic lashes instantly with ultra-soft plastic bristles. GMO and cruelty free,” (www.walgreens.com).

This mascara is my absolute must of the 5 Great Beauty Products from a Drugstore. It is natural, free of harsh chemicals, and actually does a great job as a mascara.  Physicians Formula often goes on sale, so when I can, I stock up on these Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara.

T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Astringent $5.49450 (3)

“Gently cleanses and conditions skin without removing essential moisture. Relieves oily, irritated, red, damaged, blemished or inflamed skin.

  • Dermatologist recommended
  • 100% natural
  • For face and body
  • No artificial fragrances or dyes
  • No animal testing    Made in USA,” (www.walgreens.com)

T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Astringent is the toner of my choice.  I love that it is natural and inexpensive. I use this astringent after cleansing my face.

Revlon ColorStay ShadowLinks  $2.99450 (4)

  • “Create your own palette
  • All day wear

Available in 4 finishes & 30 shades,” (www.walgreens.com)

I purchased the Revlon ColorStay ShadowLinks on a random drugstore run, selecting a few neutral tones in browns and dark purple. I was happily surprised to find that the pigments of these eye shadows were vibrant and long lasting.  I highly recommend this brand if you want to add new colors to you eye shadow collection. The cool thing about this eye shadow is that you can connect them to make your own customized palette.

MAC Brush Cleanser Review

by Lesley Kim

A good brush can really make some mediocre makeup perform just a little bit better.  Over the years, I have accumulated many brushes… tossing some and keeping some.  To preserve my favorite makeup brushes, I sometimes use the MAC brush cleanser because my brushes typically come from MAC.

Today, I wanted to review the MAC Brush Cleanser, retailing for  $15.00 for 235 ml at MAC stores and many department stores that carry MAC makeup.

The MAC Brush Cleanser is described as a product that will, clean, disinfect and condition the brush fibers so that brushes will last longer. It is convenient to use and is specifically designed to extend the life of high quality brushes. Brush Cleanser leaves your brushes smelling fresh and clean, and helps shorten their drying time.” (www.maccosmetics.com)

MAC Brush CleanserWhen it comes to the Brush Cleanser by MAC, a little does not go a long way.  I find that I need to use a significant amount of the cleanser to clean one blush brush.  I still see some shedding of the bristles, but I do find that the MAC Brush Cleanser does an excellent job at removing foundation from makeup sponges.  Overall, I have the MAC Brush Cleanser for heavy duty makeup removal from my brushes.  Most of the times though, a nice gentle facial cleanser does the same job at a lower price.

I recommend keeping the MAC Brush Cleanser around for occasional deep cleaning of makeup brushes, but I do not recommend using it every time you need to wash your brushes.  They are on the expensive side for the amount you need per cleaning.  You can easily just use a small amount of organic facial cleanser.

Palovia- A Skin Renewing Laser- Review

by Lesley Kim

I heard of Palovia, a skin renewing laser you can use at home, from a morning show. Intrigued, I asked my hubby to buy me this skincare device as a present. I’ve had my Palovia for 2 years now, but just decided to write this Palovia Review.

Palovia Review
Some information about Palovia:
The PaloVia Skin Renewing Laser is the first at-home laser clinically proven to reduce wrinkles around the eyes. Each treatment takes just 3-4 minutes per day.

Makes a slight buzzing noise to indicate it is in use
Delivers a visible improvement in fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes in just one month
In a clinical study, a panel of doctors specializing in dermatology and plastic surgery saw a noticeable reduction in wrinkles in 92% of participants after one month of daily treatments

Uses the same skin-renewing, fractional laser technology used by doctors – but adapted and perfected for home use

Fits seamlessly into your life – because it’s fast and easy to use
Invented, designed and manufactured by Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc – a leading supplier of cosmetic lasers for dermatologists and plastic surgeons (www.amazon.com)

Palovia ReviewYou are supposed to do a treatment each day for 30 days straight at the highest level, then maintain with a treatment once a week. Omg! Each laser zap is so painful, even at the lowest level. It is literally like snapping rubber bands on your skin. I tried the lowest treatment for about 7 days straight and then stopped, primarily because I was getting some darkness where the laser has hit. I was freaked out, of course, but this eventually faded off. I now sometimes use Palovia once or twice a week, when I remember to :). The zapping of the laser is just too painful, and I get welts right after treatment.

Does Palovia work? I feel like Palovia helps some with tightening the skin . Some reviewers really swear that this device works. Even though I am not using Palovia as intended, I feel like it is tightening my skin a little bit. If you can’t tolerate pain, Palovia is not for you. When I googled reviews, I didn’t get much feedback on how painful the zapping is. But I will tell you in this Palovia Review, this device hurts like heck.

I also get darkness and tiny bumps from the laser after 2 or 3 uses but this goes away after a a few days. I am using Palovia more for prevention of fine lines and wrinkles. I’m not really sure if Palovia works. But at this age, I feel like anything is better than nothing. Palovia is quite pricey and not worth it if you want immediate results.

Yes to GrapeFruit Moisturizer Review

by Lesley Kim

I like to use natural products when I can. I was at Ulta, a beauty store, and I decided to try the Yes to Grapefruit Moisturizer, Correct & Repair. I love that this product did not contain any parabens or petroleum, chemicals that I try to avoid when I can.

Yes to Grapefruit Moisturizer

A little but of information about this product :
The Yes to Grapefruit Moisturizer contains,

“Moringa oil to boost radiance
Natural sunscreens to protect skin
Reduce the appearance of dark spots
Make skin feel firmer & more resilient
Contains grapefruit & passion flower oil
Paraben-free
Free of petroleum & SLS

Grapefruit is rich in Vitamin C and Lycopene (anti-oxidant heavy hitters), grapefruit naturally evens skin tone and enhances luminosity, promoting healthier, smoother and softer looking skin… You glow girl! Moringa Oil this skin conditioning moisturizer is chock-full of radiance-boosting fatty acids and vitamins A and C (and was used by ancient Egyptians… imagine that!) Passion Flower Oil this natural botanical native to the Amazon is lightweight and has a high content of natural fatty acids. A portion of proceeds from every Yes to product goes toward the Yes to Seed Fund – giving kids fun and engaging ways to connect with Mother Nature and teaching them to lead healthier lifestyles.” (www.walgreens.com)

I like the texture of the Yes to Grapefruit Moisturizer. It quickly absorbed into the skin for a matte finish. I do have dryer skin and this Yes to Grapefruit Moisturize did not do a great job at hydrating my parched skin.  This moisturizer is light and would be great for those who have a more oily skin.

Even though I love that the Yes to Grapefruit Moisturizer is mostly natural, I don’t think I will be buying this product again.  I prefer a richer, creamier moisturizer that keeps my skin hydrated throughout the day.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask Review

by Lesley Kim

This post is a review of the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

This mask is a, “Creamy, penetrating night mask helps skin drink deep to replenish lost moisture, build reserves for tomorrow. All night long, it soothes and nourishes to help skin hold in moisture. You wake and touch soft, dewy, glowing skin. Oil-free” (www.clinique.com)

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight MaskI have been concerned with dry skin and am constantly looking for ways to hydrate my skin. I came across the Moisture Surge Overnight Mask and thought, why not give it a try.

The Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask, which cost $33.00 for 3.4 oz, is more like a night cream than a mask. I anticipated a really thick, gloppy product that would sit on my skin, but instead this mask resembled more of a night cream. The good thing about this texture and consistency is that the product does not get on my pillow and sheets. I do think it might as well be called a night cream, but I probably would not have fallen for this product.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight MaskOverall, I think the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask does a good job moisturizing my skin through the night and into the morning. I do wake up with softer, more moisturized skin. I highly recommend it for people who are looking for a good moisturizer for night time. It can definitely replace the more expensive night creams that are out there.

A Review of Kiehls Eye Alert

by Lesley Kim

This post is a review of Kiehls Eye Alert, which can be purchased at department stores like Macys, Bloomingdales, or at www.kiehls.com.

The Kiehls Eye Alert is described as, “an energizing eye treatment that combats puffiness and dark circles.  Made with cooling extracts to energize and hydrate the thinner skin of the eye area.  A potent blend of vitamins and Caffeine fights fatigue
With regular use, skin appears strengthened and the look of fine dehydration lines is reduced.” (www.kiehls.com)

Review of Kiehls Eye Alert

The Kiehls Eye Alert  is affordable at $21.50. The gel easily absorbs into the delicate are of the skin leaving no residue or film. I think the Kiehls Eye Alert  is a decent eye cream. My eyes are pretty sensitive to chemicals and this eye cream does not irritate or cause my eyes to sting.

I personally can not tell if this product has made a difference in the puffiness and dark circles under my eyes, but it does somewhat keep the under eye moisturized. The Kiehls Eye Alert does contain caffeine, which should help the puffiness under the eyes. Maybe I haven’t been using this product long enough to really see a significant difference. Other reviewers seem to really like this product. For those who want to try something different, the Kiehls Eye Alert is worth a try.

TopStyler Ceramic Shells Product Review

by Lesley Kim

I usually prefer soft, curly hair when I have the time to style my hair. And so I am constantly looking for the best system that can curl my hair effectively and efficiently.  I had heated rollers once, and loved the way they worked.  When I saw the informercial for TopStyler Ceramic Heater Shells by Instyler, I was intrigued.  I eventually ended up buying the system to try it.

topstyler

The Topstyler Ceramic Shells System retails for about $100, but you can find it for cheaper at certain online stores.  The Topstyler Ceramic Shells System came with a total of 15 shells.  There are only space for 10 shells to heat.  You will have to apply 5 shells first, then heat the other five in the empty slots to have 15 heated shells.  I found that 10 shells were more than enough to curl my long hair so I didn’t need to heat the other 5.  I thought that winding the hair into curls would be challenging, but it was surprisingly easy. The system also came with a comb to help with this process.

topstyler1Overall, the TopStyler Ceramic Shells System was not that impressive.  I feel like it is similar to hot rollers, and not significantly special.  I will have to try it again, as the brochure said practice makes perfect.
