Make Your Own EOS Lip Balm

by Lesley Kim

Who hasn’t seen that adorable EOS lip balm commercial and had to have that little round lip candy?  When I tried EOS lip balm for the first time, I loved how well this lip balm moisturized my lips. I also loved that the ingredients of this super cute lip balm are organic. But the best part of the EOS lip balms may be the round, colorful containers they are in. These round containers are just too cute for words!

Even though the EOS lip balms are in a unique container, the recipe for this delicious lip balm is fairly easy to recreate.  I decided to make my own EOS lip balm at home and wanted to share the recipe. The container of my DIY EOS lip balm may not be as adorable as the EOS lip balm, the finished product however, is just as delectable and moisturizing.

DIY EOS Lipbalm Recipe

1/2 tsp of organic olive oil
1/2 tsp of organic beeswax
1/3 tsp of organic coconut oil
2 drops of organic jojoba oil
1/4 tsp of organic shea butter
1 drop of Vitamin E oil
1 drop of  essential oil of your choice (I used lavender)

In a double boiler, gently melt all the ingredients, except for the essential oil, in low heat. Be careful, as the mixture can become very hot.  Gently pour in a heat safe container.  Stir in the essential oil once the mixture has cooled a little bit.  Refrigerate for a few hours for the lip balm to fully harden.

Dry Shampoo Recipe

by Lesley Kim

Dry shampoos have become quite popular recently because of its promise to freshen and revive hair that hasn’t been washed for a few days.  I usually wash my hair every day because I just love showering.  Even so, I still find use for dry shampoos.  I usually prefer to shower early in the morning before going out.  But some days, H will want to grab breakfast and showering is not always time efficient. For days where I can’t shower before hand, I like to use dry shampoo to freshen my hair.

I have seen this dry shampoo recipe all over the internet.  It is very simple and can be stored for a few months.  The dry shampoo recipe I have seen only used baby powder and cocoa powder.  I added a splash of my favorite perfume for a yummy scent.

For this dry shampoo recipe, you will mix the baby powder and cocoa powder, about half and half, to use with dark hair.  Most people just use plain baby powder if they have blonde hair.  I keep the mixture in a clean, sterile container.  Using a powder brush, I apply the dry shampoo to the roots of my hair.  Then I brush my hair thoroughly to distribute the dry shampoo.  Sometimes, I curl my hair after or just style and go =)

Easy Greek Yogurt and Honey Mask

by Lesley Kim

A facial mask is an effective way at cleansing and reviving the skin.  Facial masks can be expensive and full of chemicals and preservatives.  Many food are actually great as facial masks. One of my favorite masks is just plain greek yogurt and a drizzle of honey.  This greek yogurt and honey mask is super easy to make.

I usually mix 1/2 a cup of greek yogurt with a teaspoon of honey.  I keep this mixture in the refrigerator for about 3 days at most.greek yogurt and honey maskWhy greek yogurt and honey?  Greek yogurt contains lactic acid, which can gently exfoliate the skin, while the milk fat in the yogurt will nourish and moisturize the skin. Greek yogurt is also natural, and if you want, you can use organic greek yogurt. Honey has anti bacterial and anti microbial properties, clearing and preventing breakouts.  Honey is also calming to the skin.  IMG_1699

A greek and yogurt mask is usually great at brightening and clearing my skin.  For added benefits, I sometimes add a drizzle of olive oil or argan oil.  Olive oil and argan oil are great way to add anti aging benefits to this simple greek yogurt and honey mask.greek yogurt and honey maskI like to apply the greek yogurt and honey mask on cleansed skin right before bedtime.  I leave the mask on for about 10 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water. I follow with my favorite night cream.IMG_1712

Homemade Foot Scrub

by Lesley Kim

“Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.” Albert Camushomemade foot scrub

It’s easy to neglect our feet, especially during winter when we don’t see them because we end up wearing boots all season long.  Unfortunately, it is during the winter season when our feet probably need the most tender loving care. One way to keep our feet soft and beautiful is to use a moisturizing foot scrub a couple of times a week.

In this post, I am going to share a simple, all-natural, homemade foot scrub, using ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen. If you follow my blog, you know that I love all things natural.  There are so many chemicals and preservatives in our every day beauty products.  Using a few products here and there that is natural and preservative free is definitely a breath of fresh air.
