DIY Peppermint and Citrus Hand sanitizer

by Lesley Kim

One of the easiest DIYS ever are hand sanitizer sprays.  They literally take about 2 minutes to make.  When my Everyone Peppermint and Citrus Hand Sanitizer Spray ran out, I washed the bottle with soap and water so I can reuse it and make my very own DIY Peppermint and Citrus Hand Sanitizer.  I wiped the bottle with a clean towel and let it air dry until fully dry.

Now the fun part!  Pour 1/3 purified or bottled water in the clean bottle and then add 2/3 rubbing alcohol.  Gently swirl around.  Then carefully add about 7 drops of lemon essential oil, 5 drops of peppermint oil, 5 drops of lavender oil, and 3 drops of tangerine oil.  Add a few drops of Vitamin E oil and cap the bottle.  Gently shake the mixture, and you have made your very own DIY Peppermint and Citrus Hand Sanitizer!

For your ingredients:  You can purchase an essential oil sampler from online stores like amazon.com.  Rubbing Alcohol can be purchased at Target, and Vitamin E oil from CVS or Walgreens.

Hemp Milk and Oatmeal Face Mask

by Lesley Kim

My skin has been parched and dry lately. In need of a new, moisturizing, and anti aging DIY face mask, I made a simple hemp milk and oatmeal face mask.  I love hemp milk, and if you haven’t tried it, it’s worth a try.  I have found this vegan milk from places like Whole Foods, Ralphs, and other health food stores.  Hemp milk tastes creamy and delicious, though more on the thick side.  It also works well in DIY face masks, as you can see from this post =).

Hemp Milk and Oatmeal Face MaskIngredients:

1 teaspoon raw oatmeal

2 teaspoon hemp milk

1/2 teaspoon of honey

Hemp Milk and Oatmeal Face MaskMix all the ingredients with a hand blender or with a spoon, mashing the oatmeal.

_MG_0715Add a few drops of moisturizing oil.  I like to use evening primrose oil.
With a cotton ball, apply all over the face.  Let dry for about 10 minutes. Then with a wet towelette, wipe off.  Rinse again with warm water and apply your favorite moisturizer.

Delicious Cocoa and Coconut Lip Butter Recipe

by Lesley Kim

I typically go through a number of lip balms, partly because I misplace most of them, but also because I do use them often. Kiehls lip balms have been my favorite for years. But lately, I have been experimenting with my own lip balm recipes and love how they are coming out.

Cocoa and Coconut lip butter recipe

Homemade lip balms are fun to make, super easy and best of all, inexpensive. You can also customize them to your liking and give them away as gifts. I usually make my homemade lip balms, like the one using the cocoa and coconut lip butter recipe, as I need them. I purchased small containers from Michaels, which holds these concoction perfectly. I do caution that since lip balms can melt in high heat, it is always important to buy a container that seals tightly. If you want, you can reuse small containers from skincare samples. Amazon also carries a number of great containers that are perfect for homemade lip balms.

Cocoa and Coconut lip butter recipe

In this post, I wanted to share a yummy cocoa and coconut lip butter recipe.

Ingredients

1/4 tsp of melted beeswax
3/4 tsp of coconut oil
1/10 tsp coca powder
1 drop of vitamin e oil
1 drop jojoba oil

Mix the melted beeswax and coconut oil together. Slowly mix in the cocoa powder. Add the vitamin E oil and jojoba oil.  Carefully mix the mixture until everything has blended well. Then transfer the mixture to a clean, sterile container for storage. Refrigerate for an hour or two to harden the mixture.

Apply this cocoa and coconut lip butter recipe liberally and often for moisturized lips.

DIY Hand Mask for Younger Looking Hands

by Lesley Kim

The back of the hands are often neglected. Mine definitely are, especially after numerous washing though out the day.  I usually try to put lotions or a mask when I can to counteract the drying effects of the weather and water on my hands.  As you know, I love to experiment with what I have to make my own homemade skincare. Today, I want to share a homemade hand mask that will leave your hands soft and youthful looking.  I used 2 ingredients that are easily found in most homes to make this easy, homemade hand mask.

homemade hand mask

Ingredients
1 tsp of full fat sour cream
1/4 tsp of cumin

Mix the two ingredients in a clean, sterile container. Apply the mixture to the back of the hands with a clean brush. Let dry, about 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

homemade hand maskI know…. It’s strange to use this two ingredients for a homemade hand mask. It kind of smells like delicious Mexican food. But sour cream and cumin are actually wonderful for the skin. Sour cream is high in fat, moisturizing and nourishing the dry patches of the back of hands. Sour cream also contains lactic acid, gently exfoliating the skin to reveal younger looking skin.

Cumin is a spice that is beginning to find its way into beauty products. Cumin has Vitamin C and E, which are important for youthful skin.

Together, cumin and sour cream makes an amazing moisturizing and anti aging homemade hand mask for dry, neglected skin.

Clarifying Strawberry Mask Recipe

by Lesley Kim

I usually like to keep fresh berries in my refrigerator, hoping that if they are readily available, I will be more likely to eat them. I usually do eat most of the fresh fruit I buy,  but sometimes, some of these nutritious berries begin to go bad before I can get to them. Instead of trashing these over ripe berries, I like to use them for homemade masks. Now that I am more conscious of my skin, I try to apply a moisturizing or clarifying mask as much as possible. Whether the mask is homemade or store bought, the benefits are always a plus.

clarifying strawberry mask recipeIn this post, I wanted to share a simple way of saving those over ripe strawberries to make a clarifying all natural mask that will leave your skin free of blemish, radiant, and glowing.

clarifying strawberry mask recipe

 Clarifying Strawberry Mask Recipe

1 ripe strawberry
1 teaspoon honey

Strawberries make an amazing mask because they contain Vitamin C, salicylic acid, and antioxidants. The Vitamin C and antioxidants keep the skin youthful by removing free radicals and damage while the salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and tightens the pores.

Honey is an excellent, all natural ingredient that removes blemishes and acne. Honey has antibacterial and cleansing properties that will leave your skin smooth and clear.

clarifying strawberry mask recipeCarefully mash the ingredients in a small container. Once the honey and strawberry is fully mixed, apply the mixture on clean face with a brush. You can reapply a second layer once the first application has dried off. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Apply the rest of the mask to your hands, or discard.

Nourishing Vitamin E Facial Moisturizer Recipe

by Lesley Kim

I don’t know what it is, but my skin has been going through a dry spell lately. I am always  on the lookout for great facial moisturizer, the kind that leaves my skin soft, supple, and moisturized through out the day.

I like to use an oil blend on my face on the days that I stay home, sans makeup.  But the problem with oil blends  is that the oil usually need to be massaged on the face a good few minutes for the oil to truly soak in.  I wanted a more simple facial moisturizer that would immediately sink right into the skin.  Check out my Nourishing Vitamin E Facial Moisturizer Recipe below.

Nourishing Vitamin E Facial Moisturizer Recipe

Nourishing Vitamin E Facial Moisturizer Recipe

1 teaspoon 100% Aloe Vera Gel
5 drops of 100% Vitamin E Oil
5 Drops of Jojoba Oil
5 drops of Avocado oil

In a small, sterile container, place all the ingredients and slowly stir until well mixed.

Nourishing Vitamin E Facial Moisturizer Recipe

I like to make small batches to prevent my homemade skincare from spoiling or getting contaminated.  I also like to wipe every tools and containers with cotton balls soaked in alcohol to sterilize. I am a homemade skincare fanatic, but I want to caution those who make their own skincare, which usually does not have preservatives, to always be careful of spoilage and contamination.

I typically will never make anything with water (which can cause mold, yuck!) unless it is for one time use only.  I have seen many skincare recipes which uses water.  I personally would not make such recipes.  Good luck and have fun making your own homemade skincare! =)

Make Your Own Tinted Lip Balm

by Lesley Kim

Waxelene is probably one of my favorite products to use. A petroleum jelly alternative, waxelene is made up of organic soy oil, beeswax, vitamin E oil and organic rosemary oil.  I use waxelene for everything, from a lip balm to a foot cream.  I also love to use waxalene for my homemade skincare. In this post, I wanted to show you a super quick way to make your own tinted lip balm using waxelene and your favorite lip color.

make your own tinted lip balmIn a clean, sterile container, melt 1 teaspoon of waxelene and a small amount of your favorite lip color.  Mix well. Transfer to a clean container.

If you don’t have waxelene, you can combine 1/4 teaspoon of melted beeswax with 3/4 teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil.  Waxelene is fairly easy to find in places like Target, CVS, or Walgreens, costing about $10 for a 9 oz jar. Online stores like Amazon also carries them. Waxelene is definitely a beauty must have!

make your own tinted lip balmFor my tinted lip balm,  I used a matte lip color from MAC.  MAC is usually my preferred makeup brand because they are not too expensive and are very camera friendly.  Their products are also highly pigmented, making them perfect for mixing with products like waxalene.

There’s nothing worse than when your favorite cheek blush breaks into little pieces. When this happens, I typically crush the pieces to a powder form and turn this powder into a cream blush.

a clean, sterile container (I used an old MAC blush container)how to make a cream blushDirections:
