“Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship.”

I am an avid fan of essential oils and plant oils, especially in my beauty routine. Argan oil, also called liquid gold, is one of my favorite oils to use due to its high vitamin E content, fatty acids, and sterolins (plant sterols that improve skin metabolism, heals scars and moisturize skin). Argan oil is also lightweight and easily soaks into the skin.

Argan oil is derived from the kernels of the argan tree, which are endemic to Southwestern Morocco.  I usually purchase organic argan oil from, for about $13.00 for 2 oz.  Though expensive compared to other oils, a little bit of argan oil goes a very long way.  Listed below are ways that I like to use argan oil in my beauty routine.

1.) Facial Moisturizer– Apply a few drops of argan oil to cleansed skin and massage gently.  I like to repeat this process several times for a well hydrated skin.

2.) Facial Serum–  Mix argan oil with jojoba oil and evening primrose oil to make an anti-aging serum.  Apply to cleansed skin, before applying facial moisturizer.  I like to use this concoction before bedtime.  I always wake up with soft, moisturized skin.

3.) Mix with lotion– Create a super hydrating body lotion by mixing a few drops of argan oil to a dollop of body lotion.

4.) As a hair serum– Rub a few drops of argan oil between your hands and then gently run fingers through clean hair.  I like to use argan oil  and apply them to the ends of my hair to prevent split ends.

5.) Face Mask– Mix a few drops of argan oil with greek yogurt for a homemade face mask.  If you don’t have yogurt, you can mix a few drops of argan oil with honey, and then apply this as a face mask.  Let the mixture sit on face for about 15-30 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water.

6.) Nail Treatment– Use argan oil to clean nails and massage into the cuticles.  Your nails, which are often neglected, will be stronger and more moisturized.

7.) Mix with Conditioner–  Add some argan oil to your conditioner for a deep conditioning treatment.

8.) Prevent Stretch Marks–  Apply a few drops of argan oil to stretch mark prone skin, or your belly if you are pregnant, to prevent stretch marks.  You can also mix argan oil with other oils like avocado oil or coconut oil.  Massage gently onto the skin.

9.) Scar Treatment–  Use argan oil to smooth existing scars by massaging the oil on the scars.  I have yet to try this, but argan oil is recommended for scars because of its Vitamin E content and sterolins.
